Diamond

Diamond is a clear, colourless gem, often prized for its dazzling facets. It has a projective energy and is associated with the sun and element of fire.

Currently the gem is highly used in engagement rings. This practice is due more to agressive advertising on part of the diamond industry rather than any traditional beliefs. Diamonds are believed to increase one's confidence with the opposite sex and is very useful in curing infertility and other sexual dysfunctions. It is not, interestingly enough, a stone of love. Other stones, such as sapphires would be much better for promoting a long, happy marriage.

The diamond's powers range far beyond those of sexuality. It is also seen as having great protective influence and is believed to grant physical strength, courage and victory.

In shamanic practices, the diamond is worn to promote spitituality and a ritual state of conciousness. For these reasons, it is often used in meditations.

It is believed to be a stone of peace, and can encourage sleep and dispell nightmares and other nocturnal disturbances.
